The Design of AngloThai
AngloThai’s interiors have been designed with leading Thai-American designer May Redding, drawing inspiration from Thailand’s contemporary design movement, while evoking the warmth of a well-loved home.
May’s approach reflects Thailand’s vibrant ecosystem of design and craftsmanship, where innovation thrives alongside deep-rooted artistic traditions. To bring her vision to life, May selected a group of artisans whose work merges tradition with modern innovation.
Among these collaborators is Moonler, a distinguished furniture maker based in Chiang Mai. Specialising in indigenous Chamchuri wood, Moonler has created custom tabletops, chairs, and a striking four-meter-long dining table that sits proudly in the private dining room, Baan. Robert Sukachard of Pern Baan adds a luminous touch to the space with his Ban Pa Ao lighting, named after a village in Northern Thailand making wax cast brass items, the sole preservers of this ancient craft tradition.
Bangkok based textile designer, Pichatorn Nuladaisri of Yarn Story Studio has created a feature art installation made from woven metals and recycled textiles to dress the dining room, while Archivio Asazak, a painter and reiki healer based in Chiang Mai, has created an abstract art piece that weaves his diverse passions in life with spirituality, art and emotion.
Earth and Fire in Northern Thailand’s Lampang region have created ceramic tiles that will feature as wall art for the dining room, and other bespoke items such as wine bottle buckets and crockery, that link the contemporary design of the restaurant to the food and wine.
In addition to these unique pieces, our ceramic collection includes freeform, colourful pottery from Chiang Mai’s Prempracha and Bangkok’s Lamunlamai studios. Closer to home, Welsh ceramicist Matthew Jones has crafted much of our crockery, using local clay and glazes inspired by traditional Thai celadon.
The art and design at AngloThai is a celebration of craftsmanship—where timeless Thai aesthetics meet modern innovation, and every piece tells a story.
